The classical music festivals in India have been a treat to the ears for many years. The main aim of these music festivals has been to encourage and promote the Indian classical music which has slowly been losing its roots in the country. So below are the upcoming classical music festivals in India to look out for:
Swaranjali-
This music festival is initiated by Swaraprabha Trust which is registered as a charitable trust and is solely devoted to propagate and spread the Indian classical music among the people and especially youngsters. This is a 3-day long music festival which starts from January 3rd and is at Nehru Center in Mumbai and includes some of the renowned artists like Begum Parveen Sultana, Pt. Venkatesh Kumar, Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, Smt. Arati Ankalikar – Tikekar, Smt. Devaki Pandit, Pt. Vikku Vinayakram, etc.
Swathi Sangeetholsavam-
Swathi music festival is considered to be a week-long music festival which pays a tribute to the compositions of Maharaja Swathi Thirunal who was said to be a king of Travancore in the 19th century. This festival is devoted to his compositions which are more than 400 of Hindustani and Carnatic music. This festival attracts the eminent musicians from all over India and is conducted in the month of January from 4 to 13th every year at Kuthiramalika Palace, East Fort, Trivandrum, Kerala.
Mylapore Festival-
This festival initially began as a simple Kolam contest which was organized by the local newspaper in 2001 but now it has been grown into a four-day extravaganza. There are more than 30 events conducted in this festival which includes 200 artists spread over 12 venues. There is not only classical music but also other attractions like the heritage walks, folk art, exhibition, crafts zone, street food, etc. It is conducted in the month of January from 10th to 13th and is located at Sri Kapaleeswarar Temple and Nageswara Rao Park, Mylapore, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
There are also many other classical music festivals conducted like 29th Hridayesh Festival, Namamee, URJA, etc.
